Best Practices Presentation at SITE Conference in Austin
I presented a best practices seminar at SITE in Austin, TX. This was my first time attending SITE and I found it to be an amazing little conference. It was a very friendly and cooperative atmosphere. I was able to reconnect with friends and colleagues and connect with new friends and colleagues. My presentation was well received, which is always a plus.
Abstract: This best practices session provides insights into using social media platforms to facilitate instruction in a psychology of social media university course. We will discuss: using unvetted social media sources to help students develop critical thinking skills and to facilitate discussion; using Facebook groups to promote prolonged engagement with peers sharing and discussing relevant topics; blogging and microblogging to reflect on relevant topics; and using myriad other social media platforms/tools to learn and teach one another about the psychological influences of social media.

I also had the opportunity to become a founding member of the new Social Media Special Interest Group at SITE. As the social media officer, I’m helping maintain a Facebook page for the group. We are also using #SocialMediaEd in our Tweets and other posts. I’m looking forward to being more involved with this group of colleagues and this conference.
